Patient Experience
What to Expect During Your First Hyperbaric Visit
Beginning hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a simple and comfortable process. At Regenesis Hyperbaric Center, your first visit is designed to help you understand the treatment environment, become familiar with the chamber, and ensure that therapy begins at a pace appropriate for you.
Our goal is to make your experience calm, safe, and supportive from the very first session.
- Initial Consultation and Review
Before beginning treatment, a member of our team will review your medical history and discuss your goals for therapy. This helps us determine the most appropriate starting protocol and identify any factors that may influence treatment.
During this discussion we may review:
- Medical history and medications
- Current symptoms or recovery goals
- Previous experience with hyperbaric therapy
- Treatment goals
- Previous response to hyperbaric therapy
This conversation allows us to tailor the treatment plan to your individual needs.
- Orientation to the Hyperbaric Chamber
Before your first session, a certified hyperbaric technician will explain how the chamber works and what you can expect during treatment.
You will learn:
- How the chamber pressurizes and depressurizes
- How to equalize ear pressure during compression
- How communication with the technician works
- What sensations are normal during treatment
Most patients find that once they understand the process, the experience feels straightforward and comfortable.
- The Treatment Session
Once inside the chamber, the technician gradually increases the pressure over several minutes. The only sensation most people notice is a feeling in the ears similar to what occurs during airplane travel or driving through mountain elevations.
During the session:
- The technician monitors the chamber and your comfort throughout the treatment
- You can relax and rest in the chamber environment
- Pressure adjustments can be made if needed to maintain comfort
Many patients describe the session as a quiet time to rest and relax.
- After the Session
When the session ends, the chamber pressure is gradually returned to normal atmospheric levels.
Afterward:
- Most patients feel completely normal and can resume normal daily activities
- Some people notice mild relaxation or temporary fatigue as the body adjusts
- Our team will check in with you to see how the session felt and answer any questions
Because hyperbaric therapy works through gradual physiological adaptation, treatment protocols often involve a series of sessions over time.
A Gradual and Thoughtful Approach
For many patients, especially those with neurological sensitivity, therapy begins gently and may progress gradually as the body adapts.
This approach helps ensure that hyperbaric therapy is delivered in a way that is both effective and comfortable for each individual patient.
